Vector Graphics

Graphics that scale without losing quality

What is Vector Graphics?

Vector graphics are images made of mathematically defined curves, lines, and shapes rather than pixels. As a result, they can be scaled up or down without losing sharpness. Typical formats are SVG, AI, EPS, and PDF. The opposite is raster graphics, such as photos in JPG, PNG, or WebP. Logos, icons, illustrations, and print files are usually created as vectors.

Why It Matters

A vector logo can be used on a business card, website, or billboard without blurring and without being redrawn. Printers and sign or vehicle-wrap makers require vector files. On the web, SVG icons and logos have small file sizes, stay sharp on high-resolution displays, and can be styled with CSS. A company that only has its logo as a small image pays for redrawing it with every new order. Vector source files should therefore be part of every brand handover.

Real-World Examples

  • 1A logo in SVG for the website and in PDF for the printer.
  • 2A set of service icons on a website created as SVG.
  • 3A company car wrap file in EPS format.
  • 4An illustration used both on a poster and a mobile screen.
  • 5Redrawing an old logo from an image into a vector.
